One across southwestern Australia, ranging from Morra in the north to Merredin and Esperance in the east. The other is in southeastern South Australia (including Kangaroo Island) ranging north to Marree, and east into western Victoria. Like other members of the genus Neophema, the elegant parrot feeds mainly on grasses and seeds, but is occasionally known to take fruit and various invertebrates.
