thisisevenharderthannamingablog:lizziethereader:Weekly Bookish Question #220 (February 14th - February 20th):Is there a book you hate (or really dislike) by an author you usually love? (follow-up question: How do you deal with that?)It’s happened a few times (more than I realized until I had given it some thought). Sometimes it’s a one-off, they just did something I didn’t like with that particular book. It’s normal that out of a long episodic series I won’t like a couple of them. I can usually just skip them, unless they metaphorically nuke the story. Sometimes it’s more of a “period” for an author; one of my oldest faves went through some stuff at one point, and I don’t enjoy any of the books she wrote during that time. One of my other faves had a major change of direction in his work a while back, and I haven’t liked anything at all that he’s done after a specific point. I like the different ways that can happen that you identified here, it makes me think about whether I can categorize disappointing reads by authors I liked the same way. At what point do you know whether it was a phase or whether it’s a (more permanent) change of direction for the author? Do you give them “another chance” until thy disappointed you one too many times, or do you just go by “does this book sound interesting or not?”. -- source link
