otterintheflightdeck:鶸色 (Hiwa-iro) | #C2BD3D | “Siskin”The yellowish-green color of a Eurasian siskin’s feathers. The first recorded use of hiwa-iro as a color name is in the Kamakura period (1185-1333), when it was commonly used for samurai’s kariginu, a type of formal wear. It’s now mostly used for women’s clothing. In the Edo period (1603-1868), this color was likely created by first dyeing fabric yellow using kariyasu (Miscanthus tinctorius), then dyeing it blue using a small quantity of ai (Persicaria tinctoria).(Picture sources: 1, 2, 3 | More colors)Please check otterintheflightdeck’s interesting notes about japanese traditionnal colors here -- source link
