mzminola:Let’s talk about Artie/Rachel and Shelby(using Jesse)/Tina parallels!crown-of-weeds said over here: [http://crown-of-weeds.tumblr.com/post/21294615885/mzminola-tina-reads-the-name-on-the-book-aloud] thatArtie isn’t the one making this about his legs, for the record. Because Bryan Ryan told the entire glee club they were going to fail, and didn’t look at his dream. And Artie’s solution to being told he, along with the rest of Glee, will never be a performer, is, fine. He’ll direct. (And he already seems to know a more-than-average amount about it.) Tina is the one who started crying when Bryan Ryan said none of their dreams would come true, especially show-business ones, after she said she wanted to perform. So dancing/performing is important to Tina.Similarly, Rachel seems pretty chill about her mom. She’d like to know something about her, but isn’t too caught up in it at first. Jesse is the one pushing that as her dream, once he gets her to say it. But we know he’s acting as Shelby’s tool here. Shelby is the one going to enormous lengths to contact Rachel, not the other way around.~Artie borrows the arm brace/sticks from John Hubner (I think that was his name I might have misheard) and falls and tells Tina to go away.Rachel says she isn’t ready to listen to the tape and says something along the lines of “I think you should leave now,” to Jesse.~Tina pulls Artie’s dream out of the trashcan, and when he says it was private, says “You’re always talking about wanting to get with me, but you won’t be honest with me about your hopes and dreams?”Jesse’s tells Rachel “Because you’re my girlfriend and I want to know all your secrets.” and plants the tape from Shelby in her baby records.~In her dream-duet with Shelby, Rachel gets the lines “but there are dreams that cannot be, and there are storms we cannot weather.” which is a foreshadowing of her and Shelby’s relationship crashing and burning, a direct contrast to Tina telling Artie “If you can imagine it, it can come true,” and also foreshadowing of Artie telling Tina “I have to focus on dreams that I can make come true.”~Shelby wants to contact Rachel, and uses Jesse for this.Tina’s dream is to be a dancer, and she holds Artie to that, and then latches onto his single (that we were presented with) attempt at walking. Both Artie and Rachel go along with things for a while. Artie puts the brakes on at the end of this episode, but Rachel is gonna go through some more hell for a while.Mmmm parallels. Episodes where they use this structure are my favorite. Also, pretty common. -- source link
