fyeahhomestuckcosplayhelp:Ear-making tutorial! For Dog-tier Jade, mostly, Also applies if you’re planning on making heads for Bec Noir/PM costumes.1. Supplies! Fur, plastic mesh, some foam. Should not run you over $10, to be honest. Scissors, marker, craft knife, needle/thread and hot glue are also needed. (I was too lazy to find my hot glue gun, so I actually use tacky glue on these. It’s not ideal, but it works okay.)2. Draw a pattern! Just sketch out an ear. Make it a tad on the small side: the fur adds a LOT more bulk then many account for. Cut it out and trace it onto your plastic, then flip it over and trace it for the other side.3. Cut out a “v” shape in your foam for the fronts of the ears, and glue it to the plastic.4. Cut out a smaller triangle, and sculpt it into more of a dome for the back of the ear. Glue that on as well, making a sandwich with the plastic mesh.5. Put a plastic bag over the ear, and begin covering it in masking tape to make a pattern. Leave the bottom open so you’ll be able to easily get the tape off.6. Once you’ve mummified the ear, draw on the details of note. Which way you’d like the fur to go, places that are detailed. For these, go ahead and cut out the center of the ear, since that won’t be furry like the rest. Then, clip the pattern so it’s able to lie flat. Trace the patter out onto paper to create a nice, symmetrical pattern.7. Trace the pattern onto the back of your fur, making sure to match the direction of the fur. If you don’t want to have fur EVERYWHERE, use a craft knife to cut the fur, not scissors.8. For the “belly” of the ear, I just glued in some white felt. They aren’t super visible, but putting something in there to look nice is a good thing.9. Sew up the fur! Close up all those notches you had to create to make a flat pattern. Then, with hot glue, attach the fur to the foam. I like to touch up the bottom with thread, as well. It gives something on the base to work with when attaching the ears to headpieces. After everything is assembled, don’t forget to pick out the fur that got stuck in seams!10. You now have a very fluffy ear! Go ahead and trim that sucka’ up. I carefully clip with scissors in the direction of the fur. Leave the fur longer in some areas, it’s more realistic. This is really your last chance to sculpt and create exactly the shape you’d like, so be careful! There you have it! Sew them onto hairclips! Headbands! Hoods! Hats! Fursuit heads! Wherever you need them. -- source link
