He was a runner and only stopped being one a few months back before Thomas arrived, I would estimate that to mean 3-5 months max, so he probably knew. That might have even been a contributing factor to his suicide attempt, that loss of any hope, the final straw. besides Newt is second in command, I don’t think Alby kept from him much of anything. I think these three were the only ones in the Glade who carried the burden of the real truthnewt giving the other gladers false hope so they don’t try to do what he did is even sadder tbh -- source link
