fuckyeahcharlesthesecond:(‘King Charles II and Colonel William Carlos in the Royal oak’ by Isaac Fuller)Charles II spent most of 6th September 1651 hiding in a tree that later became known as the Royal Oak.After leaving Boscobel House early in the morning, he and Colonel William Careless (or Carlis) spent the entire day hiding in the oak tree while Parliamentary soldiers searched the surrounding area in an attempt to find them. Allegedly, one soldier walked right underneath the tree and didn’t spot them.Later that evening, after the soldiers had left, they returned to the house. As the family were Catholics, the house had a priest hole, and Charles spent the night hiding in it. It must have been incredibly uncomfortable for someone so tall- Charles being over six feet in height- and he became claustrophobic as a result of hiding in such a cramped space. -- source link
