wednesdaydreams:At first cheer was something to fill my days, all our days. Ages 14 to 18, a girl needs something to kill all that time, that endless itchy waiting, every hour, every day, for something — anything— to begin.“There’s something dangerous about the boredom of teenage girls…”- Dare Me, by Megan AbbottWhy do teenage girls behave the way they do? The fact is that girls are socialized from young both by society and the media to grow up faster than they want to from a young age— for marriage, for motherhood in a way that is vastly different from the way boys are soialized. When they hit their teenage years, that in-between stage before they become adults, that restlessness for something —- anything— to make their lives more interesting, to make themselves seem more grown up becomes all-consuming. They either become burdened or find a way to use their sexuality or more often than not, have it end up being turned against them. These films (which unfortunately are glaringly lacking in diversity) examine that struggle of being a teenage girl, and how destructive their nature can be. letterboxd list of films // accompanying mix on 8tracks -- source link
