qsy-complains-a-lot:Shortened Henry ‘Yellow Boy’ M1860 (transition) RifleManufactured by Winchester in the early 1860′s before the introduction of the Winchester M1866 (also nicknamed Yellow Boy), this rifle had its loading sleeve cut away and sealed by a small metallic plate, and is now loaded much like its successor the M1866. This conversion, as well as the luscious engravings and scrollworks on the frame, hammer and trigger guard were done by gunsmith Adolfo Birnn in Lima, Peru, in 1866. It was also modified from firing rimfire cartridges to fire .44 American centerfire cartridges. The capacity of the tubular magazine is still of 16 rounds, which earned this line of gun to be called “a rifle that you could load on Sunday and shoot all week long”, at a time when single shot was still the norm for military rifles.Sauce : James D.
