slvdreamer: thefemdomdiary: This is incorrect. The communicator has a responsibility for how their message is received…unless the purpose is just to tick off a box that says “I said something.” Communication goes far beyond words, and includes tone of voice, body language, method, medium, idiom, and context, to name just a few. A person who truly gives a shit about making sure their message is received accurately has the responsibility to address a variety of factors to maximize the clarity of their message, and then, to check in to see if their message is received properly. Only *then* have they communicated well. You could read a transcript of someone saying “Nice haircut,” and on the surface what they *said* is a compliment. But said sarcastically, with an eye roll, and we all know that no compliment was intended… In fact, quite the opposite. People who refuse to take ownership for how their message is received are usually just trying to deflect responsibility for their own poor communication skills onto other people. Well.. sometimes it just doesn’t matter how or what you say, some people will still go on believing the world is flat.. That’s what they choose to believe, but we can check to make sure that they understand what we’re saying. There is a difference between someone understanding what you are saying, and whether or not they *agree* with it.This is a pet peeve of mine, actually. My ex used to think that when I didn’t agree with him, it was because I didn’t understand what he was saying. The two can be mutually exclusive. -- source link
