therepublicofletters:gemma-antiqua:The Crown of the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception, also known as the Crown of the Andes, is a 17th century Colombian diadem created to crown a sacred image of the Virgin Mary located in the cathedral of Popayán, Colombia. The arches of the crown were added on in the 18th century. Gold and emeralds. Currently located in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.This crown is one of my favorite objects at the Met!!! When they acquired it from the cathedral in Colombia, it was completely bent out of shape, and it took them years to slowly bend it back. Also, all of the gems are still in their original shape. Now it’s on display, and it’s just so gorgeous! -- source link
