celestial-naiad:such-justice-wow:largic:fuckyeahilike:judgingeternity:kiss-the-cis:freepublican:cheshireinthemiddle:kstruggles:cheshireinthemiddle:Looked up romance novels on google. Men aren’t the target market of these, women are. In fact, a vast majority of these have female authors. They’re novels about incredibly attractive men dedicating themselves to women.Say it with me now: “men can’t be objectified by women or society. Men arent given unrealistic standards of beauty. It’s called a ‘male power fantasy’ becuase it happens to guys. Men don’t experience sexism.”I’ve been laughing my ass off for at least a decade since I first encountered the “woman don’t objectify men”. And FYI, the title covers on books are still as bad as these mostly 10-20 year old examples. Frequently it’s just a guy with a bare chest and hinting tgat he’s nude below the waist too. Every man in this example have at least their bare chest showing. And every single one of them looks just came from the gym. But apparently women cant and dont objectify or sexualize men. Sure. Not to mention–just to repeat what you said– that literally every guy in each cover is toned with strong pecks and a six pack “women don’t objectify or sexualize men” okay margaret but remember that next time you feel like telling carl to go to the gym Not to mention that the plots of these books are always the same sexist generalizations. You either have a woman who seems to have no defining personality traits worshipped by toned billionaires who buy her shit for nothing in return, have sex with her whenever she wills it, and fight over her relentlesslyOr you have two polar opposites come together and fulfill the most STEREOTYPICAL gender roles (despite the author always pitifully pretending the female lead is some independent badass), and despite the female lead always treating the male lead like a piece of meat he still follows her like a lost puppy and lays aside ever aspiration he’s ever had just for a crumb of her angel pussy. The way men (and women honestly) are written in these tactless romance novels is sexist, plain and simple. It does warp young women’s expectations of romance and sex. And yes, they are written BY women FOR women.Real talk? I remember some feminist describing a six pack as an “ideal standard.”Keep in mind the really ripped look they were describing is a result of deliberate body building and frequently dehydration. Calling that a “ideal standard” means you have, objectively, come to view an body type that requires gruling work and unrealistic upkeep for the average individual as an “expectation.”Last I checked wasn’t that…objectification? Viewing men as objects and expecting them to be appealing or get tossed away like trash? Hmmm…A word of warning regarding taking Americans online seriously whenever they critique a book written by a woman: be advised they never read books. Not the good ones, not the bad ones, they don’t read books - especially when they say they do and speak of them at great length with an air of authority. They don’t read books. The people above did not read a single one of the books featured in that collage. And they never will read them. It’s an American tradition to trash any literature written by women and for women.Just one example, because we don’t have all day: Twilight is a narrative about Bella, an Atheist feminist young woman, the daughter of two Atheists who got divorced when she was a child, raised mostly by her single mom who chose a career as a teacher rather than being a stay-at-home traditional wife and mother, had just the one daughter and married many years later to a man much younger than herself. Bella always wins, she is always right (a privilege only ever afforded to men in narratives, never to women) and in the end she becomes a super-powerful super-heroine who single-handedly defeats an army, thus saving herself, her family and an entire community who were doomed to be destroyed by super-powerful arch-villains. The only mystical belief that is validated by the novels are the ancient Native-American beliefs of the Quilleute nation of the State of Washington. And yet, as you must have heard ad nauseam, Americans online swear up and down that Twilight is a bigoted, racist, sexist Mormon manifesto written to brainwash your daughters into believing in the Christian God and in subservience to men. You don’t have to take my word for it. You can do what I and thousands upon thousands of other people all over the world have done, and simply read the novels for yourself. Right there you’ll be doing more than any twihater has ever done. They never read books, ever.Don’t be a sucker and don’t fall for the games these misogynists play. They’ll appeal to your values (not theirs) to scam you into not reading books they find dangerous. Whenever an American mocks and derides online any novels written by women, do yourself a favor and just ignore them. Nine times out of ten they’re just fascists doing their part to undermine feminism. Continue to enjoy reading any book you feel like whenever you want, no matter how disturbing they may find this habit of yours of getting an education and thinking for yourself, okay? This is still a free world, no matter what they think.Yikes.@fuckyeahilikeI’m not American. Chill the fuck down and actually read what people are critiquing before going on a long tirade about how people should read. @fuckyeahilike I like how you keep saying “these people didnt read any of these books” even though it’s very obvious you didn’t even read half of the replies on this post. I literally own half of the books pictured. Specifically Kinley Mcgregor, Nicole Jordan, Kresley Cole, and I MIGHT have a few Sarah Jeffries. But mostly I have A LOT of Sherilyn Kenyon. I’ve read every single one of them. Are all of the books pictured bad? No in fact I really like some of the books pictured. But there IS an overwhelming amount of women’s romance novels that are just bland regurgitated versions of BETTER romance novels and the heroine always lacks any semblance of personality or likeability. And there is NOTHING wrong with making that observation. We should be encouraging people to do better and help their work grow, not hold our tongues because you can’t handle the truth which is simply that some women writers absolutely suck. But this is really all besides the point. The point of this post was to highlight that us women have power fantasies and objectify men in media just as much as men objectify us. These books are being used to highlight a double standard that feminists have. You’re completely ignoring this point to bring up Twilight and religion for some fucking reason even though nobody here was like “don’t read these books if youre a christian!!”“Oh youre all just fascists”- If not liking some women’s romance novels makes someone a fascist, then perhaps you don’t know what a fucking fascist is. -- source link
