Today’s compilation:The Future Sounds of Jazz, Vol. II1996Trip Hop / Future Jazz / Downtempo / Drum n BassThis comp has a pretty damn high rating on Discogs, so naturally, I went in with high expectations, but unfortunately, I came out just a tiny bit disappointed. Future Sounds of Jazz, Vol. II is still a pretty damn good comp, but I really don’t think it lives up to its hype; there’s just too many snoozers on it for me to consider it elite. However, there are a handful of tunes that are still very much definitely worth checking out: “Sides of Iron” is a super unique and exquisite piece of Glaswegian mid-90s future jazzy techno that just keeps on adding more and more bits to its stew as it flows on; and “Hector’s House” by μ-Ziq really proves once again that Mike Paradinas possesses one of the wildest imaginations in all of electronic music. I really don’t think there’s another track in this world that sounds quite like that one does. Simply unreal.Highlights:The Gentle People - “Journey (Aphex Twin Care mix)”Nightmares on Wax - “Nights Interlude”Chaser - “Sides of Iron”Tortoise - “Ry Cooder”μ-Ziq - “Hector’s House” -- source link
