facets-and-rainbows:Fun fact: the Japanese word for turkey is 七面鳥(しちめんちょう), written “seven-faced bird”. Apparently it’s because they have bare skin instead of feathers on their faces—which makes their faces kind of change color sometimes.(BONUS FACT: Potatoes are called じゃがいも because they were being grown in Indonesia before Dutch traders brought them to Japan. The じゃが is from “Jakarta” and the いも means potato/tuber/root vegetable. So “Jakarta tuber”.)Happy Thanksgiving!(turkey image source) -- source link
