heathercummingsport: One day, there was a white noise machine in her room. She hadn’t bought it. There was no note. It was just there, humming along. She tried to rationalize its presence. “Maybe my sister got it for me?” She thought, trying to put a scene together. But it didn’t matter. She was thinking of getting one anyway, and whoever it was from had been very thoughtful. That night, she slept better than she had in months. Her job was so stressful. After a few nights, her job wasn’t as stressful. In fact, nothing seemed to require as much thought or worry as before. “These things really do wonders!” She thought. She didn’t wonder where it came from anymore. She found it easier to just accept things like that, and other things, like how her boss sexually harassed her more and more often.
