Sad face. That trip to Target is still haunting me. So this package says the tube is “not recyclable in all communities,” you stink, Up&Up! The cap, however, is recyclable! Oh wait, it says “*Check locally.” Good grief.I panicked at first when I realized that while the Neutrogena brand states on the packaging that they do not use microbeads in the product, this packaging does not make that statement. That sent me on a search tonight for some facts. I knew microbeads had been banned, but I didn’t know the deets.According to this article on Huffington post, “…about 8 trillion beads ― enough to cover more than 300 tennis courts ― end up in waterways across the United States every day.” NOOOO!! That is so upsetting! This is why every seafood item we cook up contains plastic. They’re literally swimming in TRILLIONS of beads, and they think “Hey! A SNACK!” and they gobble up those beads like nobody’s business. CRAZY NOTE: the Huffington Post article also notes that there’s a myriad of other items that can still contain microbeads. Some of which we aren’t even aware of yet! BOO. While some states, like California, have taken another step and banned micro plastics in “personal products,” not everyone has such a blanket statement. The term “Rinse Off” is still limiting the legislation. I checked in on the actual bill, and it does indeed state, “Rinse Off.” That’s troubling. Some facts from the FDA on the microbead bill:For rinse-off cosmetics:The deadline is July 1, 2017 to stop the manufacturing of the products described in the law.The deadline is July 1, 2018 to stop the introduction or delivery for introduction of these products into interstate commerce. For rinse-off cosmetics that are also non-prescription drugs:The deadline is July 1, 2018 to stop manufacturing the products described in the law.The deadline is July 1, 2019 to stop the introduction or delivery for introduction of these products into interstate commerce. So, since this is a “rinse off” item, I feel like my home is safe from microbead hell. But what a stinking CHORE to figure that out!! -- source link
