Another great highlight from my visit to the Heinz Nixdorf MuseumsForum was “The Turk”, also known as “The Automaton Chess Player”. ☺️♟ . . It was a chess-playing machine constructed by the German Wolfgang von Kempelen and it appeared to be able to beat every top player of the late 18th century! But guess what… it was a fake! A real chess player was sitting inside and thanks to a clever mechanism moving the pieces from the hideout. . . There only exist two copies of it, and the Heinz Nixdorf MuseumsForum houses the only one in Europe. . .
