From 1397 to 1523, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway – as well as Norway’s territories which included Greenland, parts of Finland, and the Faroe Islands – formed the Kalmar Union. Legally the countries remained separate sovereign states, led by one monarch. But their domestic and foreign policies were run by that one monarch. So….they were basically one country.Norwegians are still upset about this, particularly because they remained part of Denmark till 1814! -- source link
