twowheeltravel: Day 3 Overnight in Haifa. After a lot of climbing to cover a short distance we descended into Haifa, a charming little port city right on the Mediterranean. After some meandering about trying to find our hostel (we get lost a lot…) we stopped for some coffee and cake. In fact, we stopped directly across the street from said hostel! Coffee and cake consumed we strolled across to our home for the night, the Port Inn. Both Lonely Planet and Go Israel recommend this place for tidy and cheap lodging right in the center. It did not disappoint. The friendly staff quickly found space for our bikes and helped us with our bags. After a quick shower and some ‘interneting’ we were out on the town for dinner. Wandering around a town in Israel on Friday after sundown one doesn’t expect to find much open, fortunately for us we found a nice little Arabic restaurant which served up a ‘salad sampler plate’ for only 35 shekels (about $9). We ordered two. WOW! The meal that came out was big enough for 6 people. We ate and ate and ate… and still left food on the table. If ever in Haifa, email me..I’ll give you directions. The best meal we’ve had so far! Saturday has rain in the forecast, so we are going to make another short day of it. Nazareth is only 48k away, but we plan to take the scenic route. Should be interesting since it is the largest Arab city in Israel, we’ll be getting a feel for the other side of the coin, so to speak. Tune in later to see how it went and if Carolyn has finally come to her senses and left me on the side of the road…:) -- source link
