If you regularly play sport as a pastime then it’s important tounderstand and apply the ways to cut down on the possibility of an injuryoccurring. The same can be said for cooling down, becauseyou’re helping the body to calm down after exertion, and this will help preventmuscle stiffness and problems afterwards. On top of this, wearing correct footwear and always usingprotective equipment is important. Never scrimp on quality here, because you doget what you pay for. Good quality shoes for example will protect knees andankles, and these are two of the most commonly injured areas of the body. Ontop of this, if you need to wear equipment, such as shin guards for example,always do it – it’s for your own good. It’s equally important to check that you’re playing your sportcorrectly. For example, do you play golf? If so, have you ever had your golfswing analysed to check you’re doing it right? You might simply think you knowwhat you’re doing, it can’t be that hard, right? Wrong! An incorrect golf swingis one of the most common causes of back pain, and correcting that swing couldstop it completely. Finally, knowing your body and listening to it is vital. Pain isnot normal, and if you feel pain then something is wrongand it needs checking out. Pushing your body beyond its limits, before it isready, will mean you are simply going to cause yourself a major problem.
