The Roman Walls at Holyhead, Anglesey, North Wales, 14.8.18.The perimeter walls of St. Cybi’s churchyard are likely to be the walls of a Roman fort built by the Roman soldiers in the final days of the Empire. It was designed to be a defence against sea pirates although it was not as extensive as their previous constructions in North Wales. It shared some relationship with the watch tower on the hillside nearby. Was it only intended and constructed as a temporary strategic defence rather than cultural investment? -- source link
