meandmybentley: New York-based firm @mkcarchitecture has meticulously revived a Neo-Grec townhouse on Manhattan’s Upper East Side which melds heritage with innovation creating a spacious, multilevelled family home. Through a series of bespoke commissions of independent American artists and designers, the townhouse commits to integrate the work of emerging talent, seamlessly exhibiting them amongst significant modernist design from the around the globe. With detail and execution at its forefront, the townhouse merges high-end gallery curation with the practicalities of contemporary living, assuring each component added serves purpose. Entering the dining room the idea of unifying old with new is elegantly conveyed. A vintage table by Danish designer Poul Kjærholm is perfectly paired with a suite of chairs by American sculptor Christopher Kurtz and a custom geometrical chandelier by local-lighting designer Bec Brittain. Off in the distance a Dyade lamp by Julie Richoz for Galerie Kreo hangs in the stair hall, while outside the structure’s terra cotta façade integrates a vertical garden featuring a host of native ferns and mosses.
