Poem by Mary Oliver.“The Uses Of Sorrow(In my sleep I dreamed this poem)Someone I loved once gave mea box full of darkness. It took me years to understandthat this, too, was a gift.”― Mary Oliver, ThirstHere, Mary Lengees, one of the first Samburu women elephant keepers in all of Africa, embraces Long’uro, an orphaned baby elephant. In April, Long’uro, 18 months old, was brought to Reteti Elephant Sanctuary (@r.e.s.c.u.e) with sever injuries. He had fallen into a well and a hyena had eaten a third of his trunk. The prognosis was poor. Mary spent the sleepless nights looking after Long’uro until he became healthy. Today, thanks to her love, little Long'oru is thriving!Reteti Elephant Sanctuary (@r.e.s.c.u.e) in northern Kenya, the first community owned and run elephant sanctuary in all of Africa, has recently celebrated their 4th anniversary. Already, they have rescued over 30 elephants and returned 10 back to the wild. @conservationorg @kenyawildlifeservice @tusk_org @sandiegozoo @thephotosociety @photography.for.good #protectelephants #bekindtoelephants #DontLetThemDisappear #elephants #saveelephants #stoppoaching #kenya #northernkenya #magicalkenya #whyilovekenya #africa #everydayafrica #photojournalism #nikon #nikonlove #nikonambassador #nikonnofilter #natureisspeaking #conservation #amivitale #cuteanimals #empathyiseverything (at Reteti Elephant Sanctuary)https://www.instagram.com/p/CJ7iSenB7qn/?igshid=1elivgvu9y9ov -- source link
