Violence in Viking Age Dublin. This human skull contains evidence of a severe sword cut to the side of head, which removed a large section of bone. Further wounds are found on top of the skull and these suggest that after decapitation, the unfortunate individual’s head was impaled on a spike. It was discovered (along with 17 other skulls) during the National Museum of Ireland’s excavations at Fishamble Street, Dublin.(The photo is taken from Dr Patrick Wallace’s book, ‘Viking Dublin, the Wood Quay excavations’) -- source link
