fleurderussie:The portrait of Countess Emilia Musina-PushkinaEmilia Musina-Pushkina (née Stjernvall) was born in 1810 in Björneborg. Her father was Vyborg’s governor but died in 1815. After his death, her mother married an eminent lawyer.Emilia was well-educated and attractive, she and her sister Aurora took part in every single ball where they always found admirers. Unlike her sister Aurora, Emilia chose her future husband at the age of 16. She fell in love with Count Vladimir Musin-Pushkin who was a Decembrist. This is how Vladimir described Emilia:“She is not really pretty, but her face is so interesting and lively that it overshines her sister’s avowed beauty”But it wasn’t easy to get married if you were an exiled officer. Vladimir had to get regimental commander, governor-general and Emperor’s permission (not to mention his mother’s). And it seemed almost impossible! Vladimir’s mother was against this marriage (she didn’t want to have a Swede as a daughter-in-law). Because of her he was separated with Emilia. Governor-general Zakrevsky, who didn’t like Emilia’s step-father, even offered Vladimir honors in exchange for forgetting his fiancé. But Count Musin-Pushkin refused. He was ready to spend all his life as an exile just to be with Emilia. After Vladimir got sick, his mother agreed to accept his marriage to Emilia and sent her different kinds of presents. They got married in 1828. -- source link
