My Day 19 pick for 31 days of my favorite scary movies is the 1985 film Fright Night. I consider this one of the most purely fun vampire movies ever. William Ragsdale plays teenager Charley Brewster who comes to believe that his new neighbor Jerry Dandrige (Chris Sarandon) is a vampire bent on turning the town into his personal smorgasbord. Finding no one to believe him, Charley turns to faded movie star turned late night horror host Peter Vincent (Roddy McDowall) to help him battle this creature of the night. The first half of the movie is mainly funny with some good scares and excellent special effects in the second. Chris Sarandon is effective at portraying the classic handsome debonaire vampire with a monster lurking underneath the veneer, and William Ragsdale is believable as a hapless would-be vampire killer, but I think the real standout here is Roddy McDowall. He brings his considerable acting chops to bear to make Peter Vincent world weary, funny, and a touch sad - although strong when he needs to be. -- source link
