Almost certainly the doing of the shifty merchant that sold the book. A dose of Myconid spore powder and the information should practically squirt out of him. Of course that means making a visit to the Dark Myconid’s cavern. Like Myconids, Dark Myconids look like humanoid fungi with a wide range of shapes and colors and use mind effecting spores for self defense and communication. Unlike Myconids they are not usually passive, they don’t permit outsiders safe passage through their tunnels, and they are not asexual. Preferring to use lost travelers as hosts for their spores rather than the dripping walls and floors of their cavern homes. Dark Myconid Size/Type: Medium Fungus/humanoid CR: 4 Successful knowledge check: DC:10 Myconids are unusual fungal life forms found in cavern homes. DC:15 Dark Myconids are an unnatural and non benevolent offshoot of Myconids existing generally as a result of magical tampering. DC: 20 Myconid spores are hydroscopic, a coating of oil can be used to create a barrier between mucus membraines amd the spores psychoactive effects. -- source link
