{Just really appreciating the simplicity and honesty of this library project in Thailand designed by local architecture firm DBALP. Humble and beautiful, and modern.}The indoor/outdoor structure is constructed of two materials; sheets of corrugated polycarbonate and wood. It’s the simplicity of the construction, layout and materiality of the rectangular structure that makes this library so dynamic. The entirety of the rectangle’s width is comprised of two, full-length-full-height wood doors that fully close the structure when shut. When open, the library is welcoming and lively, begging for beach-goers to stop in for a read. The timber, post and beam style construction allows sun to filter through the corrugated sheets, creating a spaces that needs no interior lighting during the day. At night, small down lights illuminate the two long bookshelves that stretch the length of the rectangle and cause an exterior glow.Additionally, two other architectural projects were created in respects to Siam’s 100th; a multi-purpose pavilion by DEPT and the 10 Cal Tower by Supermachine Studio.Photography by Wison Tungthunya -- source link
