{Jouin Manku is a growing fave of mine, and to be honest, I do want to share more of their work on here. This restaurant in Paris is just simply sublime!} Paris-based design duo Jouin Manku have created a design scheme that both distills Ducasse’s philosophy of naturalness into a restaurant setting and undercuts traditional luxury with wry references to fine dining. The most conspicuous of these visual cues are the triumphant, curved ‘hull’ booth and the high-gloss steel domes at the entrance, a reference to the cloche that covers a plate on its way to the table. A Swarovski crystal chandelier hands overhead, with dozens of additional crystals strung from the ceiling like petrified ice. The inside of the ‘hull’ was made from recycled screens and was given a bas relief treatment resembling the pattern of a mushroom. Like the menu, the interior was based on organic shapes and designed with the most beautiful natural product in mind, with a soft mousey palette, solid oak tables and leather-upholstered chairs. “We have designed a space totally adjusted with Alain Ducasse’s naturalness cuisine and his concern for the perfection of the welcome,” said designers Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku. “First by highlighting the truth of materials… then in organizing the space so that the guests enjoy simultaneously an extraordinary and very intimate experience.” -- source link
