archiemcphee: That’s a pretty striking illustration of the Silver Surfer, isn’t it? Actually, no, it isn’t. That’s because you’re in the Department of Astonishing Optical Illusions and this is a phenomenal photograph of a model wearing body paint. Los Angeles-based make-up artist Cris Alex painted a live model (as well as a surfboard and rock made of foam core) to look as though they’d been lifted off the cover of Silver Surfer #20, which was created by American comic book artist Ron Lim in 1989. After painting her model and his props, Alex shot this photo using very strong light to make them all appear flat. And it works. It’s not until you get to look very closely that you can begin to make out details, such as the model’s eyelashes, that indicate this superhero is real. Click here for some behind-the-scenes photos. Visit Cris Alex’s website to check out more of her amazing work in special effects makeup, which includes work on movies, tv shows and music videos. [via Robot 6] -- source link
