{For the end of the day, let’s head off to the Fera Restaurant in London’s Claridge’s Hotel. Designed by Guy Oliver, he refined the original 1920’s and 30’s architecture by opening up the floor plan to let more light into the Art Deco space. Oliver also created a dash of “Alice in Wonderland–like” enchantment by revamping the entrance so the dining room gradually reveals itself. Guests walk through a curtain-lined entry, which leads to a slightly higher rotunda, and then enter the main room. The materials speak to both the past and the present. Oliver wrapped the perimeter of the room with a band of honey and amber onyx (materials used in the original design), offsetting it with calm gray walls, soft green leather banquettes, sage curtains and carpets, and a dramatic sandblasted manzanita tree in the center of the room. Perhaps the greatest testament to Fera’s design came from an architectural historian who didn’t even notice the bold changes Oliver had made. “She thought the place was ever thus, and I think that was my intention from the start.”} -- source link
