British Long Land Pattern Brown Bess flintlock musket with markings of the 16th Regiment.from Rock Island AuctionsThe 16th Regiment of Foot served in Ireland during the Seven Years War (French & Indian War) and in 1767 shipped off to Florida and where they were based out of Pensacola. During the American Revolution, they moved to New York for a short period in 1776, but returned to Florida and Georgia which were vulnerable to Spanish and French attacks. In 1778, the Spanish attacked the region from their base in Louisiana. In 1779, the 16th withdrew to Baton Rouge and then fought the Americans and French combined forces in Savannah before returning to defend Pensacola from a Spanish attack in 1781 but ultimately lost the battle. Due to their losses, they returned to England in 1782. -- source link
