In Justice League #26, we get a look at the three new League marital arts instructors: Hawkman, Black Canary, and Cassandra Cain (who appears to have thrown Jaime Reyes through a wall).I wasn’t really aware of Hawkman’s position as a fighter, his being more of an armed combat guy (although I guess it helps to train against a guy armed with axes, maces, and swords). Hm, I guess he might have an accumulated knowledge of several thousand years of fighting experience via his serial reincarnation (if that’s still canon), so I guess that works.Cass being allowed to socialise with people outside of the Bat Family is refreshingly new, good on Hawkgirl for remembering she exists! Cass meanwhile has had a history of teaching folks how to fight, it being one of the things which cemented her friendship with Stephanie Brown (the Spoiler) back in Cass’ solo series.Black Canary as a martial artist and teacher is also something set in earlier DC canon, with Dinah being an accomplished marital artist in her own right (even sparring with Cass’ mum Lady Shiva at several points). Interestingly, she also served as the martial arts instructor of the Team (a stand-in for the Teen Titans) in Young Justice, with her pointing out that knowing how to fight smart is arguably more important than just using superstrength to just smash stuff. Hence her being able to easily deflect Superboy, the same way Cass presumably chucked Jaime in the main images. -- source link
