scotianostra: Good Morning from Scotland Dunnottar Castle - Sunrise. Dunnottar, Dùn Fhoithear, “fort on the shelving slope” Perhaps most famous for Oliver Cromwell’s eight month siege when the Scottish Crown Jewels were held at the castle and famously smuggled out by Mary Grainger wife of the Minister of Kinnef Kirk but I like this account from Scots makar, or poet, Blind Harry, who wrote a chilling account of the struggle for the rock in his epic poem ‘Wallace’:Therefore a fire was brought speedily:Which burnt the church, and all those South’ron boys:Out o’er the rock the rest rush’d great noise; Some hung on craigs, and loath were to die. Some lap, some fell, some flutter’d in the sea;And perish’d all, not one remain’d alive. -- source link
