Winged Scarab Pectoral of Psusennes IThe pectoral here takes the form of a winged scarab, sitting above a shen-symbol, with the cartouche of the king at the front. The wings are decorated with horizontal rows of precious stones. Chapter 30 of the Book of the Dead is inscribed on the underside of the scarab, in which the deceased asks his heart not to testify against him during the judgement before Osiris. The pectoral is attached to a series of beads ending in a lotus-form counterpoise. The main element of the composition is a large scarab of dark stone, built in a golden frame. It has two large narrow wings encrusted with multicolored glass. The scarab lies upon the Shen sign of universal power inlaid with brown jasper. The necklace chain and counterpoise are composed of beads of gold, green, brown jasper, and felspar. From the Tomb of Psusennes I at Tanis. Third Intermediate Period, 21st Dynasty, reign of Psusennes I, ca. 1047-1001 BC. Now in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo. JE 85787 -- source link
