mandalorianart:In celebration of @mandalorianart gaining 100+ followers, we’re posting the first Artist Spotlight! In these special features, we talk to some of the most productive artists in the fandom about their art, and first up is Allison, aka @drowsydoodlerartQ: Tell us a bit about yourself!A: I’m a 23 year old cat-mom from the Buckeye State (good ol’ Ohio) and – while I do thoroughly enjoy digital art – I actually work in the healthcare field! I named myself “drowsy doodler” because I have chronic fatigue syndrome so… that’s self-explanatory! I’m always exhausted.Q: How long have you been creating?A: I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember but I didn’t start taking it seriously until high school. Those four years were when I really started to dabble more into cartoons and traditional oil paintings.Q: Tell us about your style! You have done some amazing realistic pieces, and you also have a distinct comic style. Do you have a preference?(Images courtesy of @drowsydoodlerart - view the originals here and here!)A: As much as I enjoy realistic pieces, I have to say that my heart is with my cartoons. In fact, one of the main reasons I started doing realistic or photo-study pieces was so that I could improve the quality of my cartoons. i wanted to have a better understanding of proportion, lighting, and anatomy. There’s a lot you can learn from focusing on all those little details and I do feel that they’ve helped me hone my style.Q: What about The Mandalorian inspires you to create? What’s your favourite thing to draw from the show?A: The Mandalorian has inspired me in so many ways. The characters are incredibly unique and win your heart almost instantly, and the soundtrack is absolutely breathtaking. There’s something so intriguing about Din’s world as a bounty hunter that it just makes you want to explore his life and those around him. It’s those “unseen moments” of his life that make me want to create various scenarios between him and Grogu. You would think Grogu is my favorite to draw from the show, but it’s actually Din. I feel like I can relate to him in some ways, so because of that connection I have a certain fondness for drawing him specifically.Q: The comic where Din and Grogu go shopping for macarons is your most popular Mandalorian post. Tell us a bit about it!(Detail courtesy of @drowsydoodlerart - view the full comic here!)A: Funny story. There’s a macaron shop/boutique about a half hour away from where I live and their macarons are 100% drop-dead delicious. Not to mention, their shop is the definition of shabby chic. In Chapter 12: The Siege, I immediately thought about them when I saw Grogu’s blue treat. I started getting ideas all at once of how hilarious it would be for this fierce bounty hunter to walk into such a frilly atmosphere that would make him stand out like a sore thumb. So the backgrounds/decor of that cartoon are all inspired by the real macaron boutique. Din does end up buying them out because, come on, Grogu has him wrapped around his little finger. Who can resist that sweet face?Q: What’s a piece that you’re proud of but that you felt was perhaps overlooked?A: I would definitely have to say the black and white study I did of a scene from the newest Les Miserables film. I’m generally never proud or confident in my work, but for once I did feel good about that piece. I actually did it as a challenge to myself since I had done the exact same scene about 8 years ago as an acrylic painting. So it was more of a before-and-after experiment to see my growth.(Image courtesy of @drowsydoodlerart - view the original here!)Q: What other fandoms do you create for?A: I also create for (as I just said, Les Mis), Pride and Prejudice, Jurassic Park, Phantom of the Opera, and Marvel. Clearly, The Mandalorian has taken over the majority of my art but I do intend to start making other pieces to mix in.Q: Do you currently accept commissions?A: At this time I’m not accepting commissions but hope to do so in the spring. I’m working on getting my certification as a medical coder and already have a few commission spots promised out to a few who have been patient enough to wait for me.Q:Can we find you on other platforms?A: Right now, the only other social media platform I use is Instagram. (Same username, of course!) Definitely check it out if you’re interested in process videos, I try to share all of them on there! And I also will be doing a giveaway of some sort in the near future on IG since I hit my 1K milestone on that platform.Thank you so much Allison for taking the time to answer some question and letting us showcase your wonderful art! Thanks for listening!Huge thanks to the lovely Yav for interviewing me! I am genuinely touched by how much you support artists on tumblr in the Mandalorian fandom! It is beyond appreciated! ♥️Check out @mandalorianart for an amazing variety of fanart that always gives all attention to the artists behind the work. ✨ This is the way. ✨ -- source link
