Hi friends, as many of you know, an old friend and collaborator of mine, Rose Wong, recently passed away. Loss of our trans sisters is particularly hard during a time when things are supposed to be “getting better.” I knew Rose since I was just 16 and this unexpected announcement has been heartbreaking. I remember us practicing Spanish together in high school over Skype like it was yesterday. She was one of my first close trans friends. She had an amazingly creative and goofy spirit, able to make anyone smile. In 2013, she helped spark the movement for trans students at women’s colleges, almost singlehandedly changing the whole conversation. The following years, we worked together on writing policy, creating media blasts, and building movements for trans youth. She was pursuing a MD/MPH degree at Stanford. She hoped to help trans youth obtain transition care and have a future as bright as hers. Her legacy will be remembered as it continues to impact many communities - particularly trans students - for years to come. If you have trans people in your life, make sure they know they’re loved and supported, no matter what. -- source link
