sixth-extinction:The upland moa (Megalapteryx didinus) was a small and agile moa that stood about 1 meter tall. Estimates for its weight vary widely, but seem to average about 20-35 kg. Like other moas, it was endemic to New Zealand. It is thought to have been the last species of moa to go extinct (c. 1500’s).The upland moa lived at high altitudes in a cold dry climate which, in some cases, helped to preserve its remains. Several soft tissue specimens exist, including two heads, a leg, and a foot. Simply amazing!Photographs by Rod Morris. -- source link
