Even on A Rainy Hair Day his crown be poppin. And I love that he didn’t want me to braid it up this week. He doesn’t like lots of extra attention, and is the most chill, laid back Leo I’ve met so for him to say “let’s leave it out” was telling. He said “people are gonna stare whether I braid it or wear it out and I don’t want a haircut” that was like music to our ears. Letting go of concepts we pick up from just being in the world or that make us feel like we have to fit in is a leaned behavior that can take decades for most to recognize, embrace and grow from; so seeing him come into his own conclusions has been amazing. I never wanted to make him feel like he needed to loc his hair just because we have locs, yet I also personally wanted him to grow to love his hair, so hearing him embrace it and say “forget perfection” was perfection for us. Mabye next year it’s a haircut…mabye its not. Who knows? What I have learned is NOW is what’s to embrace, not maybes. Encourage and share without force teaches.
