FUCK OFF YOU HOMOPHOBIC ASSHOLES. WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?!? the 15-year-olds on this site need to read a book instead of getting all their history from other 15-year-olds who have also never read a book these 3 are big names in the ouat femslash fandom and trust me they are not young. young lesbians listen to everything they say as a gospel. milo is a lesbophobe. you anti-lesbian queers would fit in better with him and with all the homophobes at the alt-right neofascist community. This is such bullshit. “Look at those queers there” might mean one thing in Brooklyn–but I bet you it means something very different in the Bible Belt. If it’s a threat in the Deep South, if it’s a term of abuse and aggression, if it’s designed to denigrate or threaten, then it’s a slur. Reclaiming it while you live in a privileged bubble is your prerogative, but don’t presume to tell the rest of the world what we can and can’t find insulting or offensive. Furthermore, I don’t identify as queer because there’s nothing about that term that encapsulates who I am. My hair is not dyed a weird colour. I am not pangender demisexual gray ace genderfluid out to fuck the status quo with my boifriend. I am a lesbian–a female homosexual. That’s all. Queer doesn’t define me, and I don’t want it. These fuckers can take their sanctimony and stuff it. “Reclaiming it while you live in a privileged bubble is your prerogative, but don’t presume to tell the rest of the world what we can and can’t find insulting or offensive.” I grew up in a traditionally working class town in North Wales where I still live and work to this day, and let me tell you; queer is most certainly a derogatory term to people around here. Every Sunday i would go to my grandparents’ house for dinner where my grandfather and uncles would use the word to talk about things from gay celebrities to pedophiles, because to them gays and child molesters were one and the same. Just think about the harm this would have done to me and my brother (who is also gay) growing up. We wouldn’t have been the only working class gay kids to go through this, not by a long shot. I’ve had conversations with one of my uncles where he stated quite clearly that he would physically attach any ‘queer’ he caught near his kid. Obviously he’s changed his tune since me and my brother came out, but still. I’ve talked to people who believe being gay is the result of ‘some queer touching them as a kid’. I can very rarely get through a shift at work without overhearing a regular use the word ‘queer’ to talk about gay people in the news and, you guessed it: pedophiles. Because my grandfather wasn’t the only working class man brought up to think of ‘queers’ as perverts, akin to pedophiles. Although ‘fag’ and ‘faggot’ are more common anti-gay slurs among younger people, ‘queer’ is still the go-to slur for the older generations. Not that young homophobes still don’t use the word ‘queer’ to hurt gay kids or equate gays to pedophiles. Come to think of it, because fag and faggot are specifically anti-gay terms, whereas queer is traditionally equated to all sorts of ‘sexual deviancy’, I have never heard the words fag or faggot being used to describe a pedophile, or to equate homosexuality with pedophilia, the way the word ‘queer’ is used. -- source link
