Hike #52 - Knobstone Trail, near Memphis, IN. Jackson Road Trailhead to mile marker 7. ~3.3 miles At 997 feet, Round Knob is the highest point along the KT. Not very impressive if you’re from Colorado, but, in Indiana, this is as formidable a piece of geography as you’re likely to find. Initially, to cap off the 52 hikes, I was going to return to the familiar paths of Charlestown State Park, specifically trails 3 and 7, and talk in this post about the reasons I first started hiking years ago, what it meant to me back then, the history of Rose Island, etc. But, a voice that I’d heard very often during my hikes in 2021 spoke up while looking at trails for this day: “There is no backwards. Only forward.” I heard that voice when I wanted to give up. When I was hot and tired and it seemed I had ages yet to go. But, I don’t think it was a motivating voice: I think it was a reminder of the truth. There is no backwards. Often, mid-trail, going back would be harder than pressing on to the end, and bailing out is practically impossible. You have to see it through. In hiking, and in life. So, in accordance with this outlook, my last hike of 2021 would be someplace new. And it would look forward, to the ambitions I have for continuing to experience the outdoors in 2022. KT thanks for the view. I will return. #52hikeschallenge #52hikes2021 #52hikechallenge2021 #52hikechallenge #52hikeschallenge2021 #knobstonetrail #kt #hikingtrails #hikeindiana #southernindiana #hikersofinstagram (at Knobstone Trail) https://www.instagram.com/russelljacksonart/p/CX_bEvkFMOf/?utm_medium=tumblr -- source link
