gwenstacys:“Our sons are trained to be soldiers; our daughters, to be leaders.”okay you know what this seems like as good a time as anythis idea, the argents being matriarchal, is fucking awesome, right, but everything about the execution fills me with fury. because if you actually take that idea as fact, then literally the only argent whose actions make any sense at all is kate. your daughter is supposed to be raised to be a general and you don’t even tell her she’s a werewolf hunter till she’s sixteen (or was it seventeen)? you plunge her in headfirst and “teach” her escape skills to add to her existing weapons skills in terrifying ways, but you don’t teach her anything about tactics or strategy, or anything about tricks like the sound beacons that drive werewolves, none of it–at least not onscreen, because then she suddenly seemed to know it in the episode when Boyd and Cora were on the rampage. But that’s not an excuse either. You can’t introduce this idea that Allison is supposed to become, like, the leader of the Argents and then just drop it, never spend any time on how she’s getting there, and then conveniently show her knowing shit when it’s helpful to the plot. And I get that Gerard is supposed to be an evil manipulative bastard and so he’d keep Allison from like coming into her own in this regard, or twisting her into the wrong kind of leader (a vaguely sociopathic sadist like Kate), but why is he in charge at all? We occasionally see Argents who aren’t in Allison’s immediate family, god knows where they’re hanging out, and are you telling me there are NO WOMEN IN ALL THE ARGENTS OTHER THAN KATE, VICTORIA (who never seems to have been treated like some kind of leader at all–is it because she married in? Also, HOW THE HELL DID THAT WORK), AND ALLISON? I just get SO ANNOYED because this idea is so fucking cool and they completely ignored it in basically every possible way. And then I often see the Argents referred to as a “matriarchal clan” in fandom and like: NO. THEY AREN’T. THERE WAS LIKE ONE SCENE SAYING THEY WERE AND THAT WAS IT. The women are dead except for Allison and the men have been in charge since the beginning. WALK THE TALK, TEEN WOLF. -- source link
