craigslisthorses: allthegoodnamesaretaken: craigslisthorses: westernpleasurebae: craigslisthorses: holy downhill batman Can you explain what downhill means? Like I see that the hips are higher than the withers but to me this just looks like a baby that hasn’t evened out yet It could be young, but I don’t remember an age on the ad so I can’t tell for sure. The best way to tell if a horse is downhill is the judge the skeletal structure, not the croup to withers. It’s an easier way to judge cause people like to say their horses have uphill builds because they have super high withers, which is not correct. A horse can LOOK downhill but still be level Like so- So is the horse in reference downhill or level but appearing to be downhill? How would you measure the spinal angle for a properly conformed horse next to up and down hill horses? sorry I’m having some trouble fully understanding your question. The bay in the photo with the yellow line is downhill in appearance and actually downhill anatomically, hence why the line is going downhill. I realize in my old reblog that I said a horse can look level but be downhill but i tbh dont even know why I would use that photo cause it’s downhill as heck lmfao. I think if i was just saying “like so” for reference in properly showing how to see their level, not for the horse. ^^ this horse although appearing uphill due to his flat croup and tall wither is actually built downhill this horse is built more on the level side this horse is built slightly uphill (ignore my doodles, they did it wrong and i did my best in Paint lmfao) so judge from the circled areas (draw a line) the vertebrae is where you end, so basically if it goes up towards the vertebrae, it’s uphill.. if it goes down it’s downhill, and if it’s a straight line, it’s level. did that help any?? -- source link
