Highly recommended reading: https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/asia/united-nation-china-uighur-rights-12047580 China’s mass detention and surveillance of ethnic Uighurs in Xinjiang province came under fire at the United Nations Tuesday, with 23 nations - mostly western - backing a British statement condemning Beijing’s human rights record. But China’s allies countered with a statement of their own that won even broader support, with some 54 nations backing a Belarus text that heaped effusive praise on Beijing’s “remarkable achievements in the field of human rights.” Even now, Western countries are only occasionally speaking up, and that’s because of HK’s status in the finance and business world. Do you hear them speaking up often for Xinjiang and Tibet? No? That’s cos’ Western world has no stake in it. The only reason why HK is still teetering at the brink is because of its Special Administrative Region status. Why else do you think China still hasn’t rampantly gone full blown tanks and armies on HK without hesitation like they have on Xinjiang? They have the capability to that and yet they haven’t. Ugh, I hate the greed in this world, they deserve help too. Plus, BELARUS?? SERIOUSLY. NO ONE KNOWS BELARUS EXISTS AND NOW THEY BARF UP ONE DOCUMENT AND GET 54 TO STAN. wtf. A friend just shared this on Facebook…apparently written by a student inside the Polytechnic University. We all know that many American-Western companies are in China’s pocket (Nike, Disney, Blizzard), but they’ve recently been going after certain countries in Europe with high national debt, as a way to push their “One Belt Road” project. Here’s an article on it: https://theconversation.com/chinas-relationships-with-greece-and-italy-are-deepening-eu-is-reaping-exactly-what-it-sowed-127087 China’s relationships with Greece and Italy are deepening – EU is reaping exactly what it sowed They’re been doing similar tactics throughout Asia and Africa: taking “special interest” in countries with high debts and/or in just general financial turmoil, and swooping in to “help” them, but at a cost, with those countries basically becoming indebted/dependent on China. It’s basically a new form of empire-building. I apologize if this sounds scary, because I’m not trying to fearmonger. However, it’s still important to realize just how much a danger China is to the rest of the world. It is at least worth noting as plausible, whether it seems like fearmongering or not. - Purple 54 UN nations praise “remarkable achievements in the field of human rights" of a country with no human rights. The UN is a joke. 54 UN states back a text supporting China cracking down on opposition from Eastern Europe’s last Soviet-model dictatorship. Yep, a joke. -- source link
