Love talking about art? Consider applying to join our A.R.T. (Art, Research, and Teaching) Program to learn more about art and how to engage others in discussions in the galleries as a volunteer guide. A.R.T. Guides are volunteers who lead free, public tours for adult visitors. In this role, Guides are ambassadors for the Brooklyn Museum, sharing the art and the Museum’s work with our visitors. To support them in this role, A.R.T. Guides receive on-going enrichment classes in art history and museum education. Interested in joining? Applications are now open! The deadline is October 25, 2019 at 5 p.m; apply here. If you’d like to hear more about the A.R.T. Guide Program, check out our webpage, email bkmartprogram@brooklynmuseum.org, or keep reading below!Who should apply? We are looking for people who are excited about art, accessibility, and social justice, and who are eager to share with others what makes the Brooklyn Museum unique. We are also particularly looking for people who are fluent in languages other than English, especially Spanish. No previous experience with art, art history, or teaching is necessary—just a passion to learn and share! What do A.R.T. Guides do?A.R.T. Guides lead free tours for adult visitors around works of art in the galleries. Guides each craft their own tours on topics of their choice, and receive training in art history and museum education to help them in the process. Each new A.R.T. Guide commits to being in the program for two years, though many stay longer. Guides are asked to lead a minimum of 10 tours per calendar year with flexible scheduling. As a thank you for sharing their time, energy, and passion with the Museum, A.R.T. Guides receive discounts at the Museum Shop and Cafe, exclusive access to Museum events and programs, and free admission to the Brooklyn Museum and museums across NYC and the United States. Why join? Here is what some of our current A.R.T. Guides have to say about their experience in the program and with our visitors:“We get to humanize a big institution and share its social justice commitment.” - Renee Feinberg, A.R.T. Guide for 17 years“I love the feeling of being part of this great institution. I love engaging with visitors and enriching their experience of the art that they are seeing.” - Ellen Sussman, A.R.T. Guide for 8 years“I love getting visitors to see something that they wouldn’t have seen. Spending an hour or two with a curator in the galleries is also an incredible experience.” - Ellen Goldman, A.R.T.
