Today we bid farewell to our 2019 summer cohort of interns. These 22 individuals came from a wide range of cultural, disciplinary, and educational backgrounds and over ten weeks and worked throughout the Museum. They worked behind the scenes to research for upcoming exhibitions and institutional history, preparing objects for exhibitions in our conservation lab, helping to activate current exhibitions by supporting our public programs team, directly teaching our audiences through our teacher institutes and summer camps, helping to keep our Director’s Office run smoothly, and documenting the work that the Museum does through photography and video. This describes only a few of the myriad ways in which the interns left their mark on the Brooklyn Museum. We believe that the museums of the future will benefit from the insight of this group and those that follow. We are so grateful for all of their hard work and keen insights, and the bright and energetic spirit they infused throughout the summer. For those interested in an internship at the Brooklyn Museum we encourage anyone curious about art and museums to apply. We offer multiple opportunities for a range of backgrounds and experiences—specific study in the arts, or museum experience is not a requirement. In the words of one of our interns, “I cannot imagine a more exciting and educational internship experience… I was not expecting to ever feel so personally valued at an internship.”Posted by Monica Marino and Erika Lively -- source link
