belacqui:Walt Disney, Production Version Gas Mask (1942)As bizarrely fascinating as this is, it is hard not to imagine above Mask as something Jeff Koons cooked up on a bad day. Or rather, all days are bad days in a world where Koons pirouettes through the world dropping bits of kitsch into the outstretched arms of desperate gallery owners and assorted other art world flunkies. Or maybe this hatred of a rather forgettable bit of flotsam named Koons, who is pushed along on the dying-but-still-storming wave of post-conceptual phlegm, is just nostalgia for the easily dismissed big-budget no-brainer art of the 80s/90s/00s. A nostlagic hatred which ain’t useful for mapping the real big con - the post-crisis practice of recouping scraps of value from whatever the hell profits are left over via the international Biennale circuit cum oligarch’s playground that is the current carefully curated shit storm (cause what is a crisis but a chance to regroup and recoup) of art in the 2nd decade of this hideous (gorgeous) crater of a century. -- source link
