Division of the field quarterly per fess, pale, bend etc. is a common feature despite being rare elsewhere. Similarly, ordinaries will commonly take half of the respective width of the field. Indeed they follow from the quarterly tradition, and may often be found described solely as division of the field. For example, the blazon of the Order of the Blue Robe could be given quarterly per bend sinister wavy osse, azure twice, and osse; an ankh sable. Where blood and fire are represented, they are described with their respective tinctures rather than proper.
