Beneath the Uniform Encouraged by that one tiny tattoo in the “After Workout” piece, I went ahead and experiment with more Fleet ink. This work on instagram and on twitter. All the Disco works listed here. Also putting in use the idea for perhaps some of the most Fleet loyal personnel to incorporate into body art their service numbers / assigned vessels / department insignia / Federation or Academy maxims …any such. As I first alluded at the end of this post, when mulling over the possibility of any ink on Hugh (which later could be deducted not likely to exist; otherwise you’d think it too would’ve come up on screen with that whole ‘sexy scar’ conversation after his resurrection).I don’t usually go for quite this one-to-one re-creation, but this beautiful scene is an old personal favorite from the 1940’s, by photojournalist Fenno Jacobs; an all around inspiration, and seemed just too perfect for the purpose of transferring a depiction of traditional ‘sailor’ body artistry to the supposed 2250’s. “Seek for life” and what seem like a representation of some sort of interplanetary paths and orbits around the anchor. And a random service number, in the same form we’ve seen them appear in the show. Well, “random” in any in-universe context for the pic anyway.I’ve also long wanted to see the other Fleet departments’ possible equivalents to that Medic pendant I’ve had Hugh wear (in every possible instance ever) - to somehow show, that it wouldn’t be solely a ‘Hugh thing’, but a wider Fleet / Academy thing, these ‘class jewelry’. So, here’s one for Sciences. An Orion slave girl. That is all. Harking back to hula-girl designs of olden times. The one being worked on here right now depicts - obviously - USS Discovery itself (hey now, could be Glenn, too. That would be rather sweet actually: making this a lovely Disco/Glenn crew brotherhood moment), and below it the Starfleet Academy motto “Ex Astris, Scientia” (”From the stars, knowledge”).On the other guy, then: one that in the process got titled “Andorian Hunk”.With a heart crested delta (which has reappeared couple of times since first created for this one in memory of Hugh), which I like to imagine holds some sort of personal significance to it’s wearer. Also, a compass design, hinting to some navigational duties, perhaps? With the USS Discovery registry number and the year 2256.There is also the Engineering department’s insignia on the guy’s neck… which just made me realize, that he is was wearing the wrong sort of pants for that to hold true. Fixed here now: not a single dang post without a spotted error, it seems *sigh*I should really start to hold these write-throughs as proof rounds before posting anything anywhere. But that’s that. I’ll probably never stop loving the whole intimacy of this scene, Trek or otherwise.. -- source link
