Happy Birthday to Yoko Ono who was born on this day! Yoko Ono is a Japanese multimedia and conceptual artist working in installation, performance art, text, film, photography, object and sculpture, and music. She was married to John Lennon of the Beatles from 1969 until he was killed in 1980. In addition to being a prolific artist, Ono is also a peace activist. In her work entitled “Mending piece,” she breaks white porcelain teacups and invites viewers to sit at a table and mend the broken pieces. She has incorporated audience participation in her work  since the early stages of her artistic career. In an early performance piece entitled “Cut piece, 1964,” she invited the audience to cut her clothes with a pair of scissors while she kneeled silently and passively on the stage.
